Great route along the east shore of Kootenay Lake (Hwy 3A) and into Nelson. From Nelson to Castlegar, there are two secondary routes that are off the usual highway and much more interesting. Just keep an eye out for deer along that may appear quickly out from the shrubs and farm fields. Some great twisties and nice views of the west arm of Kootenay Lake. Follow the Columbia from Castlegar to Trail. Then loop back to Nelson through Montrose, Fruitvale and Salmo. Once in Nelson, grab a bite and then back to the longest free ferry ride in North America from Balfour to Kootenay Bay.
